to think about

High Energy Needs: Welsh Springer Spaniels are energetic dogs that require a lot of physical and mental stimulation. If you have a busy schedule or limited time for exercise and play, you might find it challenging to meet their needs, which could lead to behavior problems like restlessness or destructive behavior.

Grooming Requirements: While Welsh Springer Spaniels have a beautiful coat, it requires regular grooming to keep it in good condition. Their feathered fur can become tangled and matted if not properly cared for, so if you're not prepared to invest time and effort into grooming, this breed might not be the best fit for you.

Separation Anxiety: Welsh Springer Spaniels are exceptionally social dogs, known for forming strong bonds with their owners. However, some may developseparation anxiety if left alone for long periods, leading to behaviors like excessive barking, chewing, or digging. If you have a lifestyle that requires you to be away from home frequently, it is crucial to begin training your new puppy from day one.

"Many of our puppy buyers often tell us that as soon as the puppy arrives, they will take weeks off to spend all their time with them... nothing could be more wrong. This will lead them from your constant presence to complete absence when you're at work."

It's understandable that new puppy owners are excited about the idea of spending every moment with their new furry friend. However, it's important to consider that puppies, much like children, need a stable routine and consistent environment to develop in a healthy and balanced manner.

If owners spend an extended period constantly present with the puppy, they create a very strong bond, but also excessive dependence. When they return to their daily routine, such as work, the puppy may feel abandoned and confused, as its main source of comfort and interaction is no longer available.

Instead, it's advisable to gradually introduce the puppy to the family's daily life, establishing a routine that includes moments of interaction and play, but also periods of calmness and autonomy. This will help the puppy develop the confidence and independence needed to cope with the owners' absences without stress and anxiety.

Moreover, it's crucial for the new owners to understand the concept of gradual separation, and to  leave the puppy alone for short periods of time right from the start, helping it learn to handle solitude positively.

Here are some examples on how to gradually train your puppy...

Ultimately, a gradual transition to normal daily life will help the puppy grow into a confident and well-adjusted dog, capable of handling owners' absences without stress and anxiety, and maintaining a healthy and balanced bond with their human family.
